Becky Horsbrugh

Becky Horsbrugh is a freelance journalist working at Channel 4 News, Al Jazeera and for a number of print publications. Her real passion though is promoting the big issue of drowning worldwide, and the swimming schemes that are being established to help counter this. Her work has mainly focused on Bangladesh, where she has helped out with the SwimSafe schemes that are being run there. A keen swimmer and a qualified swim teacher herself, in January 2018 Becky became the first British person to swim the Bangla Channel in Bangladesh, a 16 kilometre sea stretch from Teknaf to St Martin’s Island. Becky used this swim as a vehicle to raise awareness in the country of the shocking drowning figures for children there and her swim gained a great deal of attention in the Bengali media. Becky is also working with the British-Bengali community in London to get support for the swimming schemes back in Bangladesh and is currently researching the setting up of a programme in the Sylhet region.
